Toronto set to get lashed by snow and freezing rain

According to Weather.com, meteorologists are expecting some areas in the Northeast to see six inches of snow or more in a short time period, and flight delays are expected in major cities including Boston, New York City and Philadelphia.

Another messy mix is on the way to the Granite State, with a widespread 3 to 6 inches of snow expected before an icy mix of sleet and freezing rain.

Between 2 and 5 inches of snow looks likely in the region - the lesser amount in the city and deeper accumulations to the north, forecasters said.

After going from an icy morning to a spring-like afternoon on Wednesday, the weather is set to take another U-turn Thursday.

Monmouth and Ocean counties are expected to get 4 to 6 inches of snow, with less at the southern tip of Ocean and more at the northernmost part of Monmouth.

A clipper will move through the state Friday night, and snow will likely develop by midnight.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the entire state beginning Thursday morning, with the potential for big storm amounts as the day progresses.

Temperatures will be in the lower to mid-20s during the snowstorm.

Forecasters say the storm is going to make the morning commute hard for those in major cities, including Boston and New York City and possibly Baltimore, Washington D.C., and Philadelphia. It will be warmest weather in nearly three months for the metro area with upper 60s on Thursday and lower 70s on Friday.

"The sky will become partly cloudy and a gusty north or northwesterly wind will usher in much colder air".

Minor coastal flooding is possible around 9:30 a.m., but at that high tide the winds are still picking up.

Wind gusts are expected to reach 30 to 35 miles per hour, with the highest gusts at the coast.

The snow quickly ends Thursday evening, leaving plenty of time for clean-up overnight. The warning expires at 4 p.m. Thursday, the weather service said. Low around 25. North wind 5 to 9 miles per hour.

The weather service says low pressure will pass over the region Wednesday night, pulling Atlantic moisture with it as cold air spills south.

The Super Bowl Sunday rain was impressive.
