Dozens in Ithaca rally for Planned Parenthood

Planned Parenthood estimates as many as 5000 people showed up at the Washington Square Park rally.

"Planned Parenthood is a deceptive company". She had her baby before abortion became legal.

It isn't just about abortion, that's a very small part of what Planned Parenthood does. "I've seen lots of miracles come out of people who have decided against abortions and I just feel like it's something that's worth standing up for".

Like two football teams on either side of the field prepared to defend the middle ground, or like two street gangs spoiling for a fight, two large crowds gathered in the 4200 block of West Michigan in Kalamazoo Saturday morning to make their point as loudly as they could about federal funding going to Planned Parenthood. Cory Gardner (R-CO), who opposes Planned Parenthood. The organization actually provides less than 2 percent of manual breast exams, fewer than 1 percent of pap tests, and 0 percent of mammograms annually.

"There are more federally qualified clinics that provide a comprehensive women's health service, and we'd rather have our money go to those clinics", said Dawn Eskew, who organized the Hempstead demonstration with her group, Personhood Education New York. Some prayed while Planned Parenthood volunteers stood by, ready to escort patients. Reproductive rights was one of the issues that sparked the Women's Marches the day after Trump's inauguration, while pro-life demonstrators, seeing allies in the White House, welcomed Pence at the 44th March for Life on January 27. "Now is the time for a groundswell of grassroots efforts", comments Mark Harrington, national director of Created Equal. His newly confirmed health secretary, Tom Price, has supported cutting off federal money to Planned Parenthood.

About 225 rallies against federal funding will take place in front of Planned Parenthood clinics in 45 states, including a silent protest at the Magaret Sanger Clinic in Lower Manhattan. This protest was part of a nation-wide protest against the health center. Supporters of the organization rallied together to plan a counter protest though, and eventually outnumbered those opposed by hundreds.

According to its 2014 - 2015 annual report the health center received $520 million in federal funds. "Its not about abortion its about almost two dozen health services that are provided, including birth control. This Saturday, that majority will let their voices be heard at #ProtestPP gatherings nationwide".

He said "it's really sad" to see Planned Parenthood supporters, because they are misinformed.
