How much will Trump's border wall cost?

The cost to build the great wall along the U.S-Mexico border is estimated to reach a whopping 21.6 billion dollars and will take three and a half years to build it.

Donald Trump has said he will bring down the cost of building a wall along the US-Mexico border by helping design it or negotiating a good price.

Ahead of the planned visit, Trump tweeted: "If Mexico is unwilling to pay for the badly needed wall, then it would be better to cancel the upcoming meeting".

Trump has insisted that Mexico will eventually pay for the USA wall along the border.

Who is going to ultimately pay for the wall has been an ongoing saga.

Please Wait while comments are loading. But White House press secretary Sean Spicer suggested last month that the Trump administration could get around that with a 20% tax on all Mexican imports. This number was then nearly doubled by the Republican leadership to $15 billion, but it still doesn't come close to the federal government's official estimate, which takes into account, among other things, that much of the land the wall would be built on is privately owned and would have to be purchased. The divider would be a combination of walls and fences to span the roughly 1,250 miles (2,000 km.) not already covered by the 654 miles (1,046 km.) of barriers already in place. In the first phase, the wall will cover a section that would stretch for over 26 miles near San Diego, California; El Paso, Texas; and in Texas's Rio Grande Valley.

During his campaign, Trump also characterized Mexican migrants living in the USA as murderers and rapists and pledged to build a wall that he said Mexico would pay for.

The report also assumes that construction of the wall would commence by September 2017.

On Feb. 1, Pena Nieto's office dismissed as "lies" claims that Trump had threatened to send U.S. troops to Mexico in a phone call with the Mexican president.

Authorities said the two administrations decided not to discuss a controversial border wall in public. However, one thing is certain - Trump's wall will take plenty of time and money to create, and it might not be finished by the time 2020 rolls around.
