Bill Snyder expected to recover after health issue

Bill Snyder expected to recover after health issue

Snyder took over the K-State program in 1988 and built the Wildcats into a national powerhouse.

"I have been diagnosed with throat cancer and have been receiving outpatient treatment at the KU Medical Center for about three weeks and am getting along very well", said Snyder, via KStateSports.

According to multiple reports on Friday, Snyder, 77, has been receiving treatments at a Kansas City-area hospital for an undisclosed health issue. He said doctors and staff at both KU Medical and M.D. Anderson in Houston, Texas have worked together to finalize the overall treatment plan which is being conducted in Kansas City.

"I am very grateful to Del for staying with us as long as he has", Snyder said in a statement. "Sean, along with our coaching and support staffs, remain highly productive in carrying out their responsibilities keeping us on track".

K-State athletic director John Currie did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment.

Miller, who has tutored some of the best quarterbacks and coached during some of the Wildcats' most memorable seasons in school history, has helped K-State accumulate 150 wins, 12 bowl appearances and two Big 12 Championships during his tenure in Manhattan. "I certainly want to express my thanks to Coach Snyder for the opportunity he presented me in 1989".

Following Snyder's retirement from K-State in 2005, Miller became the offensive coordinator at San Diego State from 2006-08 and returned to Kansas State when Snyder came out of retirement in 2009.

Another bombshell Monday for the Kansas State football program. The Wildcats had been to only one bowl and had enjoyed just four winning seasons in the previous 44 years prior to Snyder's arrival in 1989.

Last season, Snyder surpassed the 200-victory milestone and owns a 202-105-1 career record. We will update this post once we do hear back from them.
