Harrison Ford almost hits passenger plane while landing, NBC News reports

Harrison Ford is an accomplished pilot, but he had a close call at John Wayne Airport in California on Monday.

While trying to land, Ford flew over a fully loaded American Airlines 737 carrying 110 passengers and six crew members, according to NBC.

An air traffic control recording captured Ford asking "Was that airliner meant to be underneath me?"

The Federal Aviation Administration told NBC News that controllers gave Ford the proper landing instructions and that he read them back.

Ford has been involved in a series of crashes and near-misses while flying aircraft.

The passenger plane departed safely minutes after the incident. "The FAA is investigating this incident, however the pilot's name was withheld", Ian Gregor, Public Affairs Manager for the FAA Southwest division stated.

At the time, an eyewitness claimed that Harrison "saved several lives" by landing at the golf course.

The star of "Star Wars" and "Raiders of the Lost Ark" was the sole occupant of the 1942 single-engine Ryan Aeronautical ST-3KR when it went down on a golf course near the Santa Monica Municipal Airport in March 2015. The actor also crash-landed a helicopter in 1999 amid a flight lesson in Ventura County, California.

Still, Ford remains an experienced and well-respected pilot.

The resulting FAA investigation could result in a variety of actions against the actor/pilot, from a warning letter to suspension of pilot's license. NBC noted he's even been inducted as a Living Legend of Aviation.
