Rory Feek Dedicates Grammy Win To Late Wife Joey Feek

Rory Feek Dedicates Grammy Win To Late Wife Joey Feek

"She's so present in my life", Rory said Tuesday on Today while discussing why he still refers to Joey in the present tense.

On the heels of accepting the Grammy Award for "Best Roots Gospel Album" for Hymns, Rory Feek appeared on NBC'S TODAY to chat about Joey + Rory's bittersweet win, life after the loss of Joey, their daughter IN, and what's on the horizon.

Joey died last year at age 40 after a almost two-year battle with cervical cancer, leaving behind three young children.

Rory Feek told Fox News before the awards it "doesn't mean anything to me if we win or we don't". In March 2016, at the age of 40, Joey lost her battle.

"She didn't have a chance to do it until she had been diagnosed with stage four cancer, and so she sang her vocals in hotel rooms while she did chemo and radiation", he continued.

The singer from Alexandria, Indiana, found success when she paired up with her songwriter husband on the Country Music Television singing competition Can You Duet? in 2008.

Before Sunday's televised Grammy ceremony, the duo was awarded the award for best roots gospel album for "Hymns".

"This is to my wife", he said.

"We sat together in the final days and watched this award ceremony previous year and she said, "If we get nominated, promise me you will come" and I said 'I will'".

"I just actually tried to FaceTime her", Feek said, according to "Entertainment Tonight". "And, she's just precious", the Tennessee-based musician told ET of Indiana. Joey's mother is with her, and also my daughters.

The Washington Post reported that Rory accepted the award saying "This is to my wife, thank you so much".

When asked how he manages to look toward the future, even after the death of his wife, he still credited Joey with getting him through the hard times.
