Lamborghini is recalling 5900 supercars after fires

Lamborghini said that the risk of cars catching fire is increased if the vehicles are fitted with unapproved aftermarket exhaust system.

The few owners of the Lamborghini Veneno will have to take their ultra-rare supercars into the shop very soon, thanks to a recall issued for the cars.

Every 2012-2017 Aventador in the United States except the new S and late-production SV models built after December 5, 2016, has a defective evaporative-emission system that can let gasoline soak through its charcoal filter and into the purge valves. The 12-cylinder, 750-horsepower supercars are among approximately 5,900 Aventadors - 1,500 in the US - that also are being recalled for the same issues.

Faults in the Aventador's evaporative emissions control system could lead to fuel vapors being treated improperly, Lamborghini said. This recall includes Aventador-based special edition models, like the Superveloce, as well as the one-off Veneno, of which only 12 exist. If purge valves are reached by fuel this could affect the functionality of the fuel EVAP system. The company also said that this new system upgrade will include a new layout. Meanwhile, affected Lamborghini supercar owners will be notified about this from February 24 to March 24. Lamborghini said that all Veneno supercar owners in the USA were properly notified about the recall.
