President Trump to hold press conference

President Trump to hold press conference

Trump will announce that he is tapping Acosta at an event the billed as a White House press conference, though it is not certain that Trump will take questions.

Andrew Puzder, CEO of CKE Restaurants, withdrew Wednesday on the eve of his Senate confirmation hearing. After working for about a year on the NLRB, he was appointed as an assistant attorney general for the U.S. Department of Justice's Civil Rights division.

He graduated from Harvard University in 1990 and in 1994 from Harvard Law School.

The above qualifications for a Labor Secretary under Donald Trump aside, Puzder was an advocate for immigration, which put him at odds with a party that wants to limit even legal immigration.

On Thursday, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer called on Trump and Puzder to withdraw the nomination, saying the pair's business records and Puzder's housekeeper issue fly in the face of the president's vow to advocate for workers.

Andy Puzder, the controversial fast-food executive who dropped his bid to become US labor secretary on Wednesday, will return to his job running the Carl's Jr. and Hardee's chains. "I think he'll be a tremendous secretary of labor".

"From the start, it's been clear that Puzder is uniquely unqualified to serve as secretary of labor", said Patty Murray, the ranking member of the US Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions.

At an industry event in 2013, Puzder explained why his restaurants benefit from migrant labor who work jobs that other Americans don't want to do.

As U.S. attorney for southern district of Florida, Acosta's high-profile prosecutions included notorious fraudster Jack Abramoff and Cali Cartel kingpins Miguel and Gilberto Rodriquez-Orejuela, the bio noted. Puzder was slated to have his confirmation hearing on Thursday. Several Republican senators were said to have had reservations about confirming his nomination, according to ABC News.
