Watch Hijab-Wearing Model Halima Aden Walk For Yeezy At NYFW

Revealing how she reacted when she heard the news of her modelling contract, she said: "I literally screamed, I was just so excited, I couldn't believe it".

No fainting models or late start times this season: Kanye West debuted his Yeezy Season 5 collection at New York Fashion Week today without the drama (read all about last season's fiasco here). Well now, thanks to rising interest Halima, we've put together a little list of things that you should know about the new face of fashion.

In an interview with the Business of Fashion, IMG president Ivan Bart said that the agency was impressed with Aden's commitment to her beliefs, which includes wearing the hijab and dressing modestly. She became the first woman to participate in Miss Minnesota beauty pageant, wearing her hijaab. It was a first for the organization, which didn't hesitate to approve her participation request.

"So proud of my baby for his awesome show today!"

She also wore a burkini, a decision that would nearly certainly insure she'd lose the swimsuit competition.

"I didn't think that I should allow my hijab to get in the way of me participating".

Born in a refugee camp in Kenya, Aden is a first-generation Somali-American, and is now a freshman at Saint Cloud State University in Minnesota. She immigrated to America with her mother when she was just six years old. The young model from St. Cloud apparently had a blast. Now a freshman at St. Cloud State University, Aden is a proud and vocal trailblazer for Muslim women in the fashion industry.

When the show was over, Kanye declined to grace the runway and take a bow, leaving some attendees wondering if he even showed up to the presentation. "We didn't expect the day after getting news of this she would wear the Escada skirt on Valentine's night in NY".

"Would you consider going fur free?"
