Pokemon Go Creator Teases Updates Coming Later This Year

When referring to the three major content updates that Niantic has in plans for this year, Hanke said that the Generation 2 update is one of those key additions. "Look at the top grossing apps on Google Play and Apple and check the charts, then form your own opinion", Hanke told The Associated Press Tuesday after his keynote speech at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

"Pokemon GO" Pokemon Day event went live recently and offers many surprises and a festive Pikachu to mark the occasion.

The dust has now settled on the big Gen 2 update for Pokemon Go, but many players are already looking ahead to what new updates and events are planned for Pokemon Go in 2017.

As he was speaking to a room full of telecommunications and technology executives, Hanke also discussed a bit of the business side of the game.

According to reports, trading is not a priority, leaving a new Player-v-Player feature as a possible contender. That's because two of the features were revealed to be trading and player vs. player battle systems. A total of 88 billion Pokemon monsters have been captured in the game. Niantic Labs points out that trainers, the in-game players, have walked around 5.4 billion miles while using Pokémon Go. Over 35,000 locations-ranging from Starbucks (sbux) to Sprint retail stores-paid to become sponsored locations in the game and received a total of 500 million visits from players.
