Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra hands on: pretty angular, no bezel

Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra hands on: pretty angular, no bezel

Sony have unveiled the world's first smartphone with a 4K high definition dynamic range screen - something that had previously been the preserve of premium televisions.

The powerful Snapdragon 835 chip is not the only thing that made GSMA vote the Xperia XZ Premium as the best new smartphone at MWC 2017. 4K HDR is the hottest combination for TVs, and Sony managed to pack the technology into the 5.5-inch display of a mobile device, which is quite impressive.

Moreover, the 960 FPS footage captured by Xperia XZ Premium is mind blowing.

The XZ Premium was the lead among a flurry of new devices announced by the Japanese technology giant during their press conference ahead of the opening of Mobile World Congress (MWC) on Monday.

These smartphones are powered by the octa-core MediaTek Helio P20 processor with 3GB RAM for the Xperia XA1 and 4GB RAM for the Xperia XA1 Ultra. This is because of Sony's recent pattern when it comes to their newer Xperia offerings. Check out Sony's new offerings here. With that kind of frame rate, the captured video shows every minor detail. That means you can interact with the images on the screen by simply "pressing" the appropriate button or UI element. The Xperia XZ Premium sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, certainly one of the highlights of the smartphone, however, its 960fps Motion Eye camera is another major highlight that it shares with the Xperia XZs. The upgraded image sensor now features 19 percent larger pixels, but it also reduces the resolution from 23 megapixels to 19 megapixels. Additional improvements have been made inside Motion Eye to the Bionz for mobile processing engine, meaning it detects moving objects more precisely. Sony offers the device in Luminous Chrome and Deepsea Black avatars, both of which are extremely glossy and look like a huge fingerprint magnet. That said, some might have preferred a metal rear casing rather than glass, but alas.

Xperia XZ Premium gets a fingerprint scanner on its rear panel but apparently United States consumers won't be getting the feature at all.
