Train slams into charter bus in MS, killing at least 3

Train slams into charter bus in MS, killing at least 3

Police are talking to the bus driver and the train operator.

Biloxi Police Chief John Miller described the crash as a "terrible, chaotic scene" at a press conference.

The bus was heading north when it collided with the CSX train, which was headed east, according to the station.

Authorities said the bus was stopped on the tracks at the time, and witnesses told the Sun Herald the bus appeared to be stuck on the tracks.

There were reportedly 50 people on the bus, and most have sustained injuries.

NBC News reports the bus was traveling from Austin, Texas.

"I want you to know we're doing everything we can to get everyone off this bus", Miller said.

First responders were still working to remove people from the bus more than 30 minutes after the crash, which occurred shortly before 2:15 p.m. Due to ongoing construction projects involving railroads in the area, there have been multiple incidents of stalling on tracks in Biloxi, local media outlets reported. Medical personnel from the nearby Keesler Air Force Base were also assisting with the rescue.
