Snow, cold to return to the area

Snow, cold to return to the area

Scattered snow showers or squalls are possible into the evening hours. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving, the weather service reported.

School delays, or cancellations, are likely on Friday.

A narrow swath of heavier snow is possible in this corridor, with some areas potentially seeing up to 8 inches of accumulation, with snowfall rates exceeding 1 inch per hour Friday morning. They show between a half-inch and more than three inches.

The higher snowfall totals will most likely be on elevated surfaces and grassy areas.

Snow will taper to showers through Friday afternoon, with skies beginning to clear after about 3 p.m.

Forecasters also say there is a chance that more significant snow could happen on Tuesday. There is a 20 percent chance for snow after 5 a.m. However, the freezing temperatures Monday morning will not last long and we will be in the 40s and 50s throughout the afternoon which will melt the any and all snow/ice leftover.

We can not rule out that this storm produces widespread snowfall totals in the 8 to 12 inches range, with locally higher amounts - especially in our colder areas.

Thursday: Increasing clouds, with a high near 56. Low around 24. There will be a 60 percent chance of snow at night.

With nearly 79 inches of snow so far this year at Glacier Park International Airport, which is two times the average, we asked Prunty if the busy winter has affected the budget.

The Winter Weather Advisory goes into effect for Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, Kenosha, Ozaukee, Sheboygan, and Washington Counties at 10:00 p.m. Sunday, March 12th through Tuesday, March 14th and 1:00 p.m. The high should be 36 but there won't be snow. Next week, a Nor'easter may bring heavy snow and wind to the Northeast.

Tuesday night. Partly cloudy, with a low around 22.

Total snowfall for the season to date in Newark, as of February 28, was 20.6 inches, or 2.4 inches below normal.
