OL Lang leaves Packers, joins Lions

OL Lang leaves Packers, joins Lions

- The Detroit Lions announced Sunday they have signed veteran guard and MI native T.J. Lang.

Lang spent his first eight National Football League seasons with the Green Bay Packers was a Pro Bowl selection last season for the first time.

Still, Bob Quinn has shown his devotion to fixing the offensive line in an effort to improve the Lions' running game, which ranked 25th in DVOA in 2016.

After a number of team visits this weekend, free agent guard T.J. Lang has made his decision. They also signed Rick Wagner to a 5-year deal worth $9.5 million a year.

But by signing with Detroit, Lang's righting a great wrong: he'll don the jersey he always should have worn, and protect the quarterback drafted with the first overall pick of his 2009 draft class. Lang would be a big get for any of these three teams after grading out as PFF's No. 13 guard out of 77 qualifiers last season. "I was no different and when this opportunity came about I got really excited about it". He has missed only five games since the 2011 season, when he became a starter on the Packers' offensive line. But assuming Lang's at 100 percent when the season starts (and I've seen nothing to suggest he won't), Quinn's turned what would have been the Lions' two biggest free-agent losses into two clear-cut upgrades.

"Went back to Green Bay, they were still in the mix", Lang said during an interview with WXYZ's "Sports Cave".
