Pi Day means pizza, pie bargains in metro Detroit

Pi Day means pizza, pie bargains in metro Detroit

Multiple companies are celebrating the day devoted to the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter.

Pi Day has become more than just a celebration for teachers and math nerds-fast food joints, chefs, politicians, auto fix shops, and even the National Hockey League have found ways to get in on the advertising, err, action. The most important of these pies, however, is pizza pie. Physicist Larry Shaw, who worked in the electronics group at the museum, started celebrating pi on March 14, 1988, primarily with museum staffers.

Today marks Pi Day, which cleverly falls each year on March 14 (or 3/14) - make the most of it with discount specials.

Blaze Pizza is offering pizzas for $3.14 and guests can enter for a chance to win a free pizza by following the company's Facebook page or viewing their Snapchat story. No need to wait for the big county fairs of summertime to stick your face in a pan of delicious fruity goo: The Republic of Pie will host such a sticky showdown on March 14 at 5:30 in the evening.

Domino's: Buy one pizza at menu price and get one of equal or lesser value free through March 19 with a coupon.

The day has come to be known as a celebration of pie as well as pi (and, coincidentally, Albert Einstein's birthday).

Check out local deals and events in your city for more offers on Pi Day and be sure to check with businesses, especially on the East Coast, to see if deals are still available due to the snow storm.

Pieology: The California-based pizza chain is offering custom pies with unlimited toppings for $3.14 on Pi Day.

Coco's and Carrows are both inviting customers to enjoy a slice of signature pie for $3.14. Boston Market is giving them away free on Pi Day, with a coupon.

At Stevi B's buffet you can get an all-you-can-eat ticket for $3.14 and purchase of a drink. Others planned to post about it on social media, while 15 percent of those surveyed said they would walk or jog 3.14 miles in honor of the number.

Harris Teeter: $3.14 Fresh Foods Market Take and Bake cheese, pepperoni or supreme pizzas.
