Search for Madeleine McCann extended by six months after Home Office grant

Search for Madeleine McCann extended by six months after Home Office grant

As Radar reported, McCann was on vacation with her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, when she was taken from her bed the evening of May 3, 2007, at Praia da Luz's exclusive Algarve resort while her parents, who had left her alone as she slept, dined at a nearby restaurant. He may not be a suspect, but could have known people involved following a suspected burglary that went wrong.

The investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann will be extended by another six months, thanks to Home Office funding. The investigation in Britain seems to be grinding to a halt and they want to rule him out of the case if not rule him in.

The man is understood to have given a witness statement two days after Madeleine, from Rothley in Leicestershire, vanished. "There are no immediate plans to reduce office numbers further at this time", a spokesperson said of demands to call it quits in the search for Maddie. Several suspects have been questioned but no arrests have ever been made.

The slow-moving investigation had been in danger of stopping altogether so this comes as welcome news for the couple.

Almost eight years have passed since Madeleine McCann disappeared in the Portuguese town of Praia da Luz with no sign of the British girl.

The Home Office confirmed on Saturday that the Metropolitan Police had been awarded the additional funding to allow Operation Grange to continue.

Policing minister Brandon Lewis, who signed off the payment, said: "I am pleased to be able to support the British police who are trying to get to the bottom of what happened to Madeleine McCann, and give some kind of closure and justice to her family".

Madeleine's parents, who also have twins Amelie and Sean, said that they will "never give up hope" of finding their daughter.
