Samsung prepares to produce foldable smartphone prototypes in Q3 2017

Samsung's prototype won't be the only foldable smartphone we'll see in the near future. However, that will depend on the response the prototype gets from the mass. Samsung will supposedly manufacture thousands of units of the prototype. Apparently, various Chinese handset makers such as Lenovo, Oppo and Vivo are rumored to be working as well with the help of local display makers like BOE, Visionox and AUO.

Chinese panel manufacturers are planning to manufacture prototypes from flexible OLED mass-production lines that they recently invested in. The Seoul-based company allegedly wanted to produce thousands of prototypes by the end of the first quarter of the year but chose to postpone its ambitions in order to secure enough time and resources to improve the overall quality of its experimental product.

BGR noted that assuming the report is accurate and Samsung will stick to the schedule, the prototype could be unveiled at the IFA 2017.

A recent report has suggested that Samsung will start mass production of foldable smartphones in H2 2018. Earlier in February, it was reported that the company would kick off foldable smartphone production in Q4 this year.

Samsung's foldable smartphone has been rumored since forever. This new smartphone will offer "luxurious design and high-quality", which will have a halo effect on Samsung's entire line-up. Although Samsung has filed a bunch of patents which depict the concept.

When prototypes pass standards of quality and performance and seem to be able to induce certain amount of demands from markets, Samsung Electronics and Samsung Display are going to decide to mass-produce them officially.

It is heard that Samsung Electronics is working on making appearance of its foldable Smartphone more luxurious and elegant as it is an ultra premium Smartphone.

Samsung has been teasing its foldable display technology for years.
