Franklin Templeton's Zahn: French bonds still unattractive on election risks

Franklin Templeton's Zahn: French bonds still unattractive on election risks

Polls suggest Macron and Le Pen are likely to face each other in the run-off of the French presidential election on May 7, with Macron likely to win by a wide margin.

Marine Le Pen, the FN's leader, seeks to win the first round of French presidential election in late April.

Conservative Francois Fillon, a former prime minister who has slipped behind Le Pen and Macron after being the front-runner, said the Dutch result underlined that opinion polls are flawed.

"I say this quite easily because in 2005, the French said no to the draft constitution in the referendum and left and right leaders joined forces to deny the popular will". "And yet again the outcome shows that it's the (political) center and right that provide the best bulwark against populism and extremism".

"Well they do not seem to have a very humanistic vision", Ms Le Pen replied before tearing into the threats aimed at deterring Britain's exit from the bloc.

Le Pen also avoided the prospect of answering questions on the allegations that her party siphoned off money from Brussels to fund party expenses in France.

The letter, published by the Tahiti Today blog, acknowledged the Tahoeraa's support for her bid to become the next French president and outlines her response to Flosse's desire to make French Polynesia an associate state of France.

With Le Pen conspicuously silent, the first reaction from her party came from its secretary-general Nicolas Bay. "As such, the Dutch result may be remembered as the turning point in the popularity of populism for 2017".

The British government has a long-standing policy not to engage with Le Pen's National Front, which has been considered toxic for decades by many mainstream European parties, Reuters reports.

He highlighted a rise in the number of seats won by Wilders' party, from 15 to 20, calling that a "partial victory even if not the final victory". "We are old allies and economically speaking as well, we have a great many exchanges to implement", she said.

Le Pen, 48, has built up a solid following by appealing to working class voters dismayed by five years of left-wing rule, a 10 percent jobless rate and restraints on public spending.

Macron, who is strongly pro-EU, represents "the opposite of what Brexit stands for", according to Le Pen. For Macron, that share is closer to one in two.
