PS4 Sales Held 51% of Console Market in 2016

PS4 Sales Held 51% of Console Market in 2016

Sony Japan mentioned the PS3's production will end soon over on its official website.

The Japanese site offers the Charcoal Black 500GB model of the gaming machine that was released on August 28, 2014.

A recent report from a market researcher showed that Sony held a huge 57 percent of the world's console market for 2016.

First released in November 2006 in the United States and Japan, Europeans had to wait until the following March to grab the console.

Sony will soon halt production of the PlayStation 3 in Japan, reported Gematsu. The console came out in Japan on November 11th, 2006 so it's almost been 11 years since the console first shipped out to stores. Sony had discontinued production of their previous two PlayStation consoles also after ten years.

This is definitely sad news for existing PlayStation 3 owners as the company will surely cut support for the console eventually and new games launches will soon become a rare occurrence. As of now, there is no information from Sony on it. It also became the home for many hit game franchises over the years, including the Uncharted trilogy, Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time, LittleBigPlanet and The Last of Us, among several others. Then, at E3 2006 gamers finally learned Sony's pricing strategy for the device - a 20GB model for $499 and a 60GB version for $599 - and much of the early hype turned into shock. People who want to buy the console will have to look for it in the secondhand market.

But PlayStation said that it will start including PS4 games with the subscription, too.

"After thoughtful consideration, we chose to shift our focus and resources to PS4 and Windows PC to further develop and improve the user experience on these two devices".
