Cahill scores late victor for Chelsea

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has denied that his players deliberately tried to antagonise Diego Costa during today's 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at the bet365 Stadium. Gary Cahill and Costa scored the other goals for the Blues, while Bruno Martins Indi and Peter Crouch each scored short-lived equalisers for Stoke City.

Cahill scored Chelsea's victor with three minutes to go.

Antonio Conte's men are now 13 points clear at the top of the table with another hard fixture ticked off the calendar.

Walters who once missed two penalties in a game against Chelsea shot high up into the net to draw the teams level.

"I'm happy to score again", Kante told Chelsea's official website after scoring just his second goal for the London outfit this season.

Shorn of the services of Eden Hazard, Chelsea proved they can function admirably without the gifted playmaker.

Willian takes his place in an otherwise unchanged starting XI from Monday's 1-0 FA Cup victory over Manchester United.

"But I'm not anxious about this because Eden is very strong physically, and he's showed me he's able to play in this league".

Only once in Premier League history have Stoke beaten the side who are top of the table.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte had stated on Friday that he wasn't unduly anxious about Hazard's ability to deal with the rough and tumble of the Premier League, and backed the former Lille star to overcome any physical teams by utilising his own strength to ride challenges and deal with other tackles.

"My players were prepared to fight to win this game because it wasn't easy".

In a moment of clarity, Costa did play the pass to release Alonso in the build up to Willian's free-kick goal, but much of his opening 45 minutes was a running battle with Stoke defenders, who appeared to be taking turns to foul and rile him.

"We have given a good account against the champions elect".

Antonio Conte celebrates after Cahill's victor. Walters' goal evened things up after Willian had given Chelsea an early lead with a clever free-kick.
