Dontari Poe signs with the Falcons

Dontari Poe signs with the Falcons

It sheds more light as to why the Colts signed Tennessee Titans free agent defensive lineman Al Woods earlier today, as well as to why former New Orleans Saint John Jenkins reportedly has a visit with the Colts tomorrow-both of whom can play nose tackle.

Two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Dontari Poe is still unsigned in free agency and is now on his way to visit the Oakland Raiders, according to the Palm Beach Post. Bennie Logan also took a one-year, $8 million deal ($7.68M guaranteed) with the Kansas City Chiefs. Especially if they find a way to periodically use him on offense, like the Chiefs did. Pioli is an executive in the Falcons front office alongside Thomas Dimitroff, the team's general manager.

This past year, Poe had 1.5 sacks, three passes defensed and one forced fumble.

Poe, listed at 346 pounds, also owns the distinction of being the heaviest player ever to rush for a touchdown (during the 2015 season) and throw for one, which he did previous year against Denver.

But he had back surgery to fix a herniated disk in the summer of 2015.

Poe's primary responsibility will be helping plug up the middle of the defensive line and get a much needed push against opposing defenses.

Carr, a 10-year National Football League veteran who turns 31 in May, is coming off his best season, when he had one interception, nine pass deflections, a quarterback pressure, a tackle for loss and 61 tackles for the Dallas Cowboys. It became evident once the Chiefs announced they weren't going to franchise tag him and even more evident when they inked Eric Berry to a long-term deal.

Poe's departure leaves the Chiefs' interior defensive line with Logan, and two returning starters (Allen Bailey and Jaye Howard) who are coming off season-ending injuries.
