Medicaid cuts won't harm beneficiaries, access to care, Price says

Medicaid cuts won't harm beneficiaries, access to care, Price says

The House Freedom Caucus posted to Twitter to indicate they still opposes the Republican replacement bill in its current form.

All Democrats voted against the measure.

"While this legislation is far from flawless and not the Obamacare replacement plan I had hoped to support, it is a substantial improvement from the mandates, burdens and failures of Obamacare".

Price spoke to reporters before a Friday meeting with House Republicans. "We would just be doing that right now on this legislation". "It took me 12 sentences to explain - it was hard to get through".

But the Republican Study Committee is far from the only constituency within the House GOP that President Trump has to deal with.

" 'It's our job to get it out of here and get it to the Senate, ' " Pence told the Republicans, according to Rep. Dennis Ross, R-Fla.

"All of these noes, these potential noes, are now yesses", said Trump.

Ryan's decision to schedule the vote next Thursday, the seventh anniversary of Obamacare becoming law, is a sign that he's confident he'll be able to wrangle enough votes to push the bill through Congress.

President Donald Trump says he wants people to know he's "100 percent behind" the House Republican health care bill.

The speaker is possessed by an unshaken confidence that this bill is better policy for the country, and that failure would be disastrous for the Republican Party politically.

Of course, the GOP bill will need 216 voted in order to pass to the House.

Congressional leadership wants to have the bill passed within a month.

The promised changes to the bill focus mostly around Medicaid and provides states the option to block grant the health care program for the low income, giving a specific sum of federal money to states to implement their own program.

Terminating the Medicaid expansion in 2020 and not 2018 "is sacrosanct to me", said congressman Tom MacArthur of New Jersey. A dramatic example, as reported by Business Insider, concludes that under the new plan the 400 wealthiest households in America get a tax cut of seven million dollars per household per year.

The bill would enfeeble Obama's individual mandate, the requirement that Americans buy coverage, by abolishing the tax fine on violators. Premiums would go up for older Americans and down for younger Americans.

Republicans in the House of Representatives presented a bill called the American Health Care Act to the Congressional Budget Office, a nonpartisan, independent agency that rates the financial feasibility of bills that are to be put to a vote in the two houses of Congress. That surpasses the 20 million who've gained Medicaid or insurance coverage under Obama's law.

This is in direct opposition to the Trump administration's repeated claims and President Trump's campaign promises that all Americans would be covered under the Republican alternative to Obamacare, formally known as the Affordable Care Act. The rally was organized by FreedomWorks, a conservative group backed by the billionaire Koch brothers. But counting those enrollees as well, sign-ups approach 13 million people. Stripping millions of Americans of health care is a lose-lose situation - for both struggling Americans and for Republicans, who would go down in history as responsible for a health-care catastrophe.
