Novak a doubt for Miami

Novak a doubt for Miami

Murray, the two-time defending Olympic champion, lost to Djokovic in January in the Qatar Open final but won his 45th career title earlier this month in Dubai.

However, he followed that up with another disappointing showing at the BNP Paribas Open with a limp second-round exit to Vasek Pospisil, the world No 129 from Canada.

Murray has made a mixed start to the year, after a stunning burst of five consecutive tournament wins at the end of last year saw him overtake Novak Djokovic at the top of the rankings.

Reports claimed that the former world number one went back to Monaco to consult doctor.

Miami Open organisers announced Murray's withdrawal from the event, which begins on Monday, issuing a short statement from him.

Not only are the world's top two men missing from the Miami event, the biggest name in the women's game, Serena Williams, will miss the Florida tournament with the knee trouble that also caused her to opt out of Indian Wells.
