Some sections of the Indian media suggested that the idea of abandoning the Indus Water Treaty was to deprive Pakistan of the water from the Indus basin and put pressure on it.

According the experts the construction of more dams by India, in Indian Held Kashmir, will further affect the inflow of water into Pakistani dams and rivers. But the designs of the Pakal Dul, Lower Kalnai and Miyar hydroelectric plants were taken up. Pakistan has been pursuing the matter of regular meetings of the Permanent Indus Commission with India to bring the other remaining issues under discussion.

"Respect and implementation of this agreement.is in the interest of both countries and this region", Asif told reporters, adding that the Islamabad meeting would focus on three Indian projects for generating hydroelectric power on the Neelum and Jehlum rivers that flow through the disputed Kashmir.

Because of the Pakistani position, Kishenganga and Ratle were not discussed in the latest round of talks.
