Plane Carrying Over 40 Crashes in South Sudan

A passenger plane has crashed at a South Sudan airport, reportedly injuring at least 14 people.

The plane's right wing hit a vehicle and a fire started on the right side of the plane, Ateny said. "The hospital received 37 people with injuries but now 31 have gone home and six are left but in stable conditions", Guadenesio said. Local media reported that the plane was owned by South Supreme Airlines.

Charles said the weather in the region had not been good when the plane came into land. Peacekeepers from Bangladesh, Nepal and China helped in the emergency work, he said.

Visibility is said to have been poor when the South Supreme Airlines plane crashed in the town of Wau and burst into flames in South Sudan.

The fate of the 44 passengers are not known, with no official statements made.

Ateny Wek Ateny, the South Sudanese presidential spokesperson, was quoted as saying: "It is miraculous, completely".

The incident took place at the airport in Wau, in northwestern South Sudan.

More than 12 million people live in South Sudan.
