More advertisers say they have ditched Fox's O'Reilly show

Apparently, the company has stood by O'Reilly who claims that the allegations are as a result of his prominence. "The Women's March group posted a message on Twitter, encouraging people to use the term "#DropOReilly" to tell advertisers to pull their ads from the program and also encouraged people to share their own experiences with sexual harassment.

However, the allegations and defection hit hard on the shares of the 21st Century Fox because they fell 1.2% to $31.75 at the close in NY.

CNN reported Tuesday that BMW of North America, Constant Contact, Ainsworth Pet Nutrition, UNTUCKit, Allstate, T. Rowe Price, GlaxoSmithKline and Sanofi were also pulling ads. The remaining advertisers are being pressured to follow them.

A Coldwell Banker ad ran during Tuesday night's episode, but the real estate company tweeted afterwards, "We were disappointed that our ad ran on O'Reilly as it wasn't part of our intentional media programming. We are concerned about the issues surrounding the program and we have suspended our advertising". Companies who advertised on the FNC program were subjected to severe backlashes on social media.

Their continued presence raises the more fundamental question of the judgment of Rupert Murdoch, the family patriarch, who stepped in to oversee Fox News after Ailes was hustled out.

"Mitsubishi Motors takes these allegations very seriously, and we have decided that we will pull our advertising at the present time", a spokesman for the Japanese carmaker said in a statement.

"We value our partners and are working with them to address their current concerns about the O'Reilly Factor", Rittenberg said in an emailed statement.

On Monday, radio host Wendy Walsh said that O'Reilly had promised to make her a network contributor after numerous guest appearances on The O'Reilly Factor in 2013. Fox counts on O'Reilly to generate an outsize share of its revenue and profit, which reached an estimated US$1.7 billion (NZ$2.44b) a year ago, a record since the network's founding in 1996.

Losing O'Reilly would be a severe blow to a network that has recently seen one of it rising stars, Megyn Kelly, defect to NBC.

Fox News is still standing behind TV host Bill O'Reilly-but advertisers are not.

CNN reported that it had "reached out to more than 20 companies and brands that have advertised on "The O'Reilly Factor" to ask for a response to the Times' report, and whether they were reconsidering their affiliation with the program in light of it".

"The O'Reilly Factor" is now the highest-rated show on cable news, averaging around 4 million viewers per night.

Fox News did fire Slater, the comptroller at the heart of the racial discrimination lawsuit, but as the lawyers for the plaintiffs note, only in late March, several days before the suit was filed.

Fox News dismissed the executive named in the suit, Judith Slater, the longtime controller, on February 28.

Angie's List: "The advertising strategy we have long used at Angie's List is meant to reach as many people as possible with news that our service exists and is available to them".

The insurance company confirmed to The Times that it had withdrawn ads from The O'Reilly Factor. A growing advertiser boycott is threatening O'Reilly as never before.

O'Reilly, who rules the ratings roost at Fox News, appears to be a classic example of President Trump's view on celebrity entitlement. What is more, cable-news channels derive the bulk of their revenue from licensing fees paid by cable and satellite operators, not advertising. We do not buy specific shows, including the O'Reilly Factor.
