YouTubers will need at least 10000 views to make ad money

That's not all the criteria for the YPP program either; Once a channel crosses the 10,000 lifetime views threshold that's been newly-set, YouTube will then verify if the channel's activity and content matches that of the service's policy and practices.

This means channels that manage to get the minimum lifetime views may still be hindered in their effort to get ads by the review process, which will hopefully catch most or all of these scammers. After today, however, that source of income will be shut down.

The YouTube Partner Program launched in 2007 to give creators a cut of revenue for the ads that run on their videos, and like just about everything on the internet, it became ripe for abuse as it grew in popularity. "By keeping the threshold to 10k views, we also ensure that there will be minimal impact on our aspiring creators".

Starting today, ads will no longer be served on YouTube Partner Program videos until a channel reaches 10,000 lifetime views.

According to YouTube, the 10,000-view benchmark allows the company time to determine whether a channel is violating community guidelines and advertiser policies.

And in a few weeks, the company is going to add a review process for new creators who apply to host ads. "If everything looks good, we'll bring this channel into YPP and begin serving ads against their content", said Bardin.

Of course, along with protecting the creators on its service whose videos are being re-uploaded by scam artists, these new rules may help YouTube keep offensive videos away from the brands that spend money marketing on their platform.

But a YouTube spokesperson said the platform has been working on revamping the Partner Program since November of 2016. Only after reaching the new view count will a channel be reviewed for monetization. This has been a big problem for YouTube in recent weeks.

The tech giant also said it would work with third parties to help advertisers protect their brands from unwanted placement.
