Josh Brolin set to play Cable in 'Deadpool 2'

Josh Brolin set to play Cable in 'Deadpool 2'

Josh Brolin has nabbed the hotly contested role of Cable opposite Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool 2, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

After names like Michael Shannon, David Harbour, and even Brad Pitt were thrown into the mix, the role has gone to Josh Brolin!

It might be on objective considering the sarcastic humor of the "Deadpool" franchise, as Brolin already plays big baddie Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Brolin, who already portrays super villain Thanos in both Marvel's Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy movies, was nominated for a best-supporting actor Oscar for his performance in 2009's Milk. In the series, the character is transported to the future as a child before returning to the present-day as a warrior. The deal is said to be for four films, which may include a Deadpool sequel and the long-rumoured X-Force film. The sequel to last year's mega-hit Deadpool is maybe releasing in 2018 too, so it's all but guaranteed Deadpool will reference the MCU from his 20th Century Fox side of the fence.

Cable plays the straight man to the wisecracking Deadpool in the Marvel comics.

Exciting casting news for fans of Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool: we've got our Cable!

Brolin, 49, becomes the second actor to star as two different characters in the Marvel movies.
