Publicist: David Letterman's mom, Dorothy Mengering dies

Publicist: David Letterman's mom, Dorothy Mengering dies

That's how she signed her note to me. She studied at Indiana University, and in 1942, she married Harry Joseph Letterman, who had a florist shop.

Dorothy Mengering died at her IN home Tuesday.

The news comes just 1 day before Letterman turns 70.

"I'm not a celebrity".

She also released a cookbook entitled Home Cookin' With Dave's Mom in 1996.

She went on: "I think it's about the idea of mom and of a family". "Even though she let him fill her fridge with Colt 45 malt liquor and bags of White Castle, when he would say something really ridiculous, she would say: 'Oh David, that's not true'". "That's what I represent".

Dorothy Mengering, the mother of late-night talk show host David Letterman, died on Tuesday, according to Letterman's publicist. The mother and son had great chemistry and a wonderful repartee with each other. Letterman would ask his mother about the most mundane of details - the weather in IN, the cat or what she had prepared for dinner. To summarize: Letterman wanted his ex-girlfriend to write lines for his lover, while he was married to Regina Lasko (the woman with whom he'd cheated on Markoe with). "'Whether they knew it or not, (my staffers) were being used to support me".

Perhaps the Mengerings' most memorable travels were the result of "Dave's Mom" becoming a huge hit on television.

She was born in IN and had frequent appearances from her Carmel residence for segments on the show. I guess I'm more like she was.

David would chat with his mom over video call and guess what flavour pies she had made for the festivities; a true audience favourite.

Twice in the 1990s, I sent her cassette tapes about Ruth Lyons. During that time she met the man who would be her second husband and traveling companion, Hans P. Mengering.
