Samsung made an even better Galaxy S8+, but you can't have it

The company said the operating profit for the first quarter was likely 9.9 trillion won ($8.8 billion USD). Even after the embarrassing recall of the company's last flagship device, the Galaxy Note 7, the S8 and its new embedded Bixby AI technology could set a new first year sales record for the company. That could help it stage a comeback in the wake of a string of controversies.

Samsung Electronics vice chairman Jay Y. Lee, heir to the parent Samsung group, has since been arrested and indicted for bribery, along with four other senior Samsung executives, in connection with a graft scandal that saw former South Korean president Park Geun-hye impeached.

All this is happening amid management upheaval at South Korea's biggest family-run conglomerate, with third-generation leader Lee embroiled in a scandal that has already led to Park's removal from office for allegedly receiving bribes. IBK Securities Co. Lee Seung-Woo said Samsung's earnings will further improve down the road as its revamped Galaxy S8 smartphone hits the market this month.

The South Korean tech giant has now started to make the Android 7.0 Nougat available for the Galaxy Tab S2 in Europe, kicks off with the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0-inch model in Italy, and the Galaxy Tab S2 9.7-inch model in Germany.

Lee's lawyers said the Samsung boss made financial payments in response to requests by then-President Park and sought no favors in return.

LG estimated its first-quarter operating profit rose 82 percent to its highest in almost eight years.

Both companies did not provide a breakdown of each business division. The company is planning in converting more other companies to OLED displays, just like the ones featured by its devices.

Samsung's reputation as a gadget maker does not appear to have suffered all that much despite the Note 7 calamity, and a soon-to-be-launched Galaxy S8 update has received positive reviews from many analysts.

Targeting millennials who are constantly looking for powerful devices, Samsung India on Friday launched its latest smartphone Galaxy C7 Pro which will be sold exclusively on Amazon India from April 11. Not only is this huge for Samsung, but it's also more than analysts expected them to bring in.
