How to activate YouTube's secret dark mode

How to activate YouTube's secret dark mode

First, update Chrome; you'll need 57, the most recent version.

If that all sounds like too much work for you, there are already Chrome extensions like ImprovedTube that will add something similar to this mode. Those signed in can click their profile icon and scroll down to "Dark Mode".

Williams shared his excitement about a hidden dark mode on his Twitter account, sharing a browser screenshot that shows YouTube with a fully functional dark mode running. This feature has been spotted by a Reddit user, but you'll also be able to activate this new setting in a few simple steps. It's essentially a light switch; flip the toggle and the site converts to a dark background on white text.

Mac users can do this by pressing Option + Cmd + I.

If you're anything like me then when you get into bed at night one of the first things you do is pop open a new tab and load up YouTube like some weird insomniac vampire who needs videos about dogs to survive.

Click the main settings menu in the top right and find the "Dark Mode" section.

YouTube is yet to announce the feature, but it's easy to enable in the latest version of Google's own Chrome browser (v57 and up).
