Hyland's Baby Teething Tablets recalled

Hyland's Baby Teething Tablets recalled

The recall includes all products that retailers may have in stock; the company stopped shipping product back in October 2016.

Under the recall announced Thursday, the company will notify distributors and retailers and arrange for the return of all the products.

The maker of Hyland's teething tablets has issued a recall for any remaining packages at the urging of US regulators, who say the medicine has inconsistent levels of a herb that can be poisonous.

FDA urged consumers to contact a doctor if young children who have used the teething tablets have symptoms including seizures, difficulty breathing, lethargy, skin flushing and agitation.

In light of these findings, the FDA contacted Standard Homeopathic Company in Los Angeles, the manufacturer of Hyland's homeopathic teething products, regarding a recall of its homeopathic teething tablet products labeled as containing belladonna, in order to protect consumers from inconsistent levels of belladonna.

Consumers with the products should throw them away.

Hyland's Baby Teething Tablets and Hyland's Baby Nighttime Teething Tablets were sold in retail stores to the consumer level.

Any questions should be directed to Standard Homeopathic Company by phone at 1-800-991-3376, Monday through Friday 6 a.m.to 4 p.m.

"The FDA has determined that the inconsistent amounts of belladonna alkaloids found in these products produced by Standard Homeopathic Company represent a serious health hazard", reads the letter [PDF].

"There is no known safe dose or toxic dose of belladonna in children because of the many factors that affect it", the agency warns. At the time, it also issued a notice to the public about the possible danger posed by them and the company issued a voluntary recall.
