Bastia fans ATTACK Lyon players: Ligue 1 game called off

Bastia fans ATTACK Lyon players: Ligue 1 game called off

Dozens of Bastia fans invaded the pitch at their Armand Cesari stadium and attacked Lyon players as they warmed up for a French Ligue 1 game on Sunday.

With the match still goalless at the interval, Bastia fans once again became violent towards the visiting team and further attempts to attack the players caused the game to be abandoned.

"Following the new incident at the end of the first period, the LFP made a decision to stop SC Bastia / Olympique Lyonnais", the statement said.

"Following the very serious incidents that occurred during the warm-up, the DDSP had indeed made a decision to play the game but to stop it at the slightest incident".

"The LFP condemns in the strongest possible terms the incidents that occurred before the match and at half-time of the match between SC Bastia and Olympique Lyonnais".

It has to be said that many Bastia supporters jeered the pitch invaders as they were against their actions.

And incredible footage also showed a home STEWARD attacking Lyon defender Mouctar Diakhaby.

Former Lyon player Jeremy Berthod told the club's official TV station that Bastia fans threw balls at Mathieu Gorgelin's goal.

On Thursday, Lyon's Europa League meeting with Besiktas began 45 minutes late after visiting fans threw projectiles and fireworks onto the home supporters, forcing them onto the Parc OL pitch.

A tough week for Rafael, Memphis Depay and co.

"The players all huddled together".

The trouble - the second time in four days that Lyon have been caught up in football violence - started when a Bastia fan from behind the goal where Lyon were practising approached the goalmouth and kicked a ball. They and the staff are very shocked.

"None of them wanted to come back out of the changing room and play the match".
