Craig Shakespeare bears no grudge with Sam Allardyce over England exit

Craig Shakespeare bears no grudge with Sam Allardyce over England exit

If Leicester City play with the same vigour and determination they showed to take a two-goal lead against a spirited Crystal Palace on Saturday, then Atletico Madrid's defenders could be in for a trying evening tomorrow.

His compatriot Daniel Amartey was left on the Leicester City bench for the entire duration of the game.

Leicester are at home to Atletico Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final next week, while United host Anderlecht in their return match at the same stage of the Europa League.

Riyad Mahrez set Vardy free and he easily turned Jeffrey Schlupp before curling in a shot that Wayne Hennessey should have dealt with.

Christian Benteke completed Palace's comeback on 70 minutes, overpowering Yohan Benalouane to convert Andros Townsend's cross, though Danny Drinkwater went close to a victor for the visitors late on.

Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce: "A great point for us".

"It's a tremendous point for us", Allardyce said. On reflection, when you finish a game with a point having been 2-0 down, you have to be incredibly satisfied with that point however precious it might be moving forward.

Yet they had been forced to rally from a two-goal deficit here, Leicester having eased into an authoritative lead with a display that evoked last season's triumphs.

"We've not got enough of a gap [to the bottom three]".

Here, SunSport reveals all you need to know about the crunch clash...

Big Sam did, however, say how he was disappointed with the way they conceded Robert Huth's opening goal: "We fell to the long throw, which we talked about and was very disappointing". Despite fielding the same starting XI for the games against Southampton and Arsenal, Allardyce has been handed a boost by being able to select Fraizer Campbell on the bench after his injury lay-off, while Martin Kelly makes his 100th Premier League appearance.

Leicester have taken more points under Shakespeare in his three Premier League away games (four) than in the previous 13 managed by Ranieri (three).

Benteke has scored 21 Premier League headed goals since his debut in September 2012; only Olivier Giroud (24) has scored more.

Shakespeare's side head to Selhurst Park on Saturday still licking their wounds after Antoine Griezmann's controversial penalty gave Atletico Madrid a 1-0 victory in the Champions League quarter-final first leg on Wednesday.

Islam Slimani has scored 35 league goals since the start of 2015-16, 16 of which have been from headers (46%).
