Spurs Blow Past Grizzlies With Strong Second Half In 111-82 Win

The San Antonio Spurs are averaging 105.3 points on 46.9 percent shooting and allowing 98.1 points on 44.3 percent shooting.

SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Spurs showcased a couple of key elements that eluded them in their Western Conference semifinal loss last season, opening up the playoffs Saturday with a 111-82 thumping of the seventh-seeded Memphis Grizzlies.

"We started getting hesitant", Conley told the San Antonio Express-News. "We missed 13 free throws, turned the ball over and got 19 points in transition". We controlled the rebounds. "That's the biggest danger".

San Antonio had one of its best games in weeks on Saturday in Game 1.

While Popovich acknowledged the Spurs could have a letdown, he quickly downplayed that possibility.

"It wasn't just me", Green said.

Granted, it would be exceedingly hard for Memphis to have as poor of a performance as they put forth in the final three frames of Game One. It's the same with Memphis. Let Conley run around and off of screens, freeing up opportunities for him to have more space. The victor of this series is going to be the team that is better able to whip the ball around, shift the balance of the opposing team's set defense, and squeeze the most out of each game's relatively few possessions.

"Obviously, we wanted to win a game", Leonard said.

Leonard averaged 32.0 points, 4.5 assists and just 1.5 turnovers per 36 minutes on a 70.4 true shooting percentage in the games without Allen. Fizdale was not able to win the chess match coming out of halftime, and when the Grizzlies' season-long struggle to do anything in the third quarter reared its head again-and now naive we were for imagining that it could be a thing of the past!-San Antonio did exactly what every Grizzlies fan feared they would do.

His absence puts added pressure on Grizzlies guard and scoring leader Mike Conley, who understands the team will go as far as he can carry it. Selden starting isn't the answer, but it wouldn't surprise me if was starting Game 2. "We need to be more consistent". "And either he's going to score or you got to go double team him and we don't want to double team him, so he's going to score". But for the most part, it was a team job trying to contain him. I didn't think we shrunk the floor well against them. Games like this just happen sometimes. They had been suspended from the team Wednesday. That's the way that they like to play.

Danny Green scored two points with five rebounds, one assist, four blocks and one steal in 20 minutes against the Grizzlies on Saturday.

Following the Spurs' slow start, Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge ignited the offense. "I have a lot of confidence in this team". Some of the times that he had Troy Daniels riding the bench on hot streaks or Toney Douglas some of the minutes that he was playing. "I'm fine. It's going to be even more physical next game, for sure". The only other time these two teams met was in the first round of 2004 when the Spurs swept them. Of course, he also caught with his former teammates. "He looks all nice and relaxed over there, and we are stressing out about the game plan". The Spurs should secure home court in the next game and then the series will begin in Grizzlies territory. "It hurt because there's a little scratch inside the eye, but not a big deal." .

The Grizzlies gave up after the third quarter.
