Hillary Clinton reportedly said 'that was my last race' after losing election

Hillary Clinton reportedly said 'that was my last race' after losing election

The drama of Mrs Clinton's election in the Peninsula Hotel in Manhattan is detailed in Shattered: Inside Hillary Clinton's Doomed Election Campaign which is out on Tuesday.

The book goes into detail about election night and the chaos that descended upon Clinton's Brooklyn headquarters as the votes continued to stack up against her on the night of November 8.

Would you read this book? Obama's legacy and the dreams of her presidency lay shattered at Donald Trump's feet.

"You know, you're starting with so many assumptions that are - I've never had a subpoena", Clinton bristled.

"You need to concede", he said. "But you have been saying for many months that he's temperamentally unfit and that he would be unsafe, and if you meant it, you should say it".

He continued: "And you made a case that all these people's rights and safety are in danger". FBI Director James Comey said on the same day as the event that he would not recommend charges against Clinton over her use of the private server. 'Other people will criticize him. That's their job. I have done it.

At the end of the script were the words: "I'm with her". She then added, "That was my last race".

We all remember that night.

We learn that campaign manager Robby Mook, the wunderkind whose heart belongs to data, pushes voter modeling and analytics and models, while pinching pennies on everything else.

Sullivan wanted Clinton to go out with a bang. Bill Clinton is still "Slick Willy" in many ways, including how he still has a tendency to speak about women in "less than respectful terms", as Allen and Parnes write.

The role of Russian interference in the U.S. election, now the subject of three investigations in Washington, is barely explored in the book, although the authors do say that Clinton's former aides see it as one of the main reasons for her loss.

We also feel the widely shared exasperation with Huma Abedin, Hillary Clinton's longtime confidante. Her chief strategist, Mark Penn, was a tyrant.

The book's apparent consensus is that Clinton "bears the blame for her defeat", due to self-inflicted wounds and running a campaign of constant infighting and disarray.

All of this makes me think that "Shattered" (while it purports to be an unvarnished look at a failing campaign) is really just a brick in the foundation of a dynastic resurrection. Thanks to Allen and Parnes, we now know how Clinton reacted, at the moment she was supposed to become the first female president.
