Suspect In Facebook Video Killing Found Dead From Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound

Suspect In Facebook Video Killing Found Dead From Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound

"She's the reason why this is about to happen to you", Stephens said.

In his broadcast of the killing, Stevens can be heard asking Godwin to repeat the name of the former girlfriend.

Owner Blake Frederick says suspect Steve Stephens visited Sherwin Shooting Sports within the past year.

Facebook meanwhile has launched a major review of how it handles violent videos after the incident.

One of Robert Godwin's sons said he was greatly disturbed by how the killer carried out his bad deed. "I am sorry that all of this has happened".

The video of the killing was up for three hours before it was taken down, raising questions about Facebook's handling of objectionable material posted by its users.

"I want to again give our condolence to the Godwin family and all of its members and really again to thank them for way in which they handled this very tragic situation not only for them personally, but for the community at large", the mayor said. The Associated Press reported Tuesday that Stephens had filed for bankruptcy two years ago despite holding down a job as a counsellor helping young people develop job skills and find employment.

Stephens is believed to have videotaped his actions and published it on Facebook, along with another video threatening to kill others and claiming he had already killed 13 people.

Stephens was employed at Beech Brook, a behavioral health agency in northeastern OH that serves children, teenagers and families, according to a spokeswoman for the facility.

Alexis Lee, who saw Stephens last week, said his childhood friend always seemed respectful and got along with everybody. "But we know we need to do better", the company said in a statement.

"We disabled the suspect's account within 23 minutes of receiving the first report about the murder video, and two hours after receiving a report of any kind". "We received reports about the third video, containing the man's live confession, only after it had ended".

Steve Stephens, 37, had been the subject of a nationwide manhunt in the wake of Sunday's killing in Cleveland. Detectives spoke with the suspect Sunday by cellphone and tried to persuade him to surrender, police said.
