Facebook murder the latest in difficulty with crime on social media

"After a brief pursuit, Stephens shot and killed himself", the police said on Twitter, providing no further details.

"Police say that Steve Stephens was spotted by as member of the public and pursued for a short time by police".

McDonald's employees were pivotal in police finding the suspect accused of murdering a 74-year-old man and sharing the video on Facebook, according to Cleveland's CBS affiliate.

Police said they found Stephens after a tip off that his vehicle was in a McDonald's auto park.

Police say a man suspected of randomly shooting a grandfather on an OH street and posting video of the killing to Facebook has taken his own life.

"She's the reason that this is about to happen to you", Stephens told the elderly father of nine in the video.

Thomas DuCharme, the owner of that Pennsylvania McDonald's restaurant in Erie, said the worker doesn't think of herself as a hero.

As officers approached his vehicle, Stephens shot himself, Pennsylvania state police said on Tuesday on Twitter and at a news conference.

In an interview with CNN, Stephens' mother said he told her he shot the man because he was "mad with his girlfriend".

Authorities said Stephens killed Godwin and posted video of the killing on Facebook before fleeing the state, triggering a nationwide manhunt. Two cars were in front of his, and police were on the way by the time Stephens reached the pickup window.

The owner of the McDonald's franchise that Stephens went to, Tom Ducharme, said, "I'm just very proud of my staff and how they handled it".

The company on Monday said it would review how it monitors violent footage and other objectionable material in response to the killing.

Authorities are offering a $50,000 reward for information that will lead to Stephen's arrest. "I'm angry with him, yes, but I forgive him", Godwin-Baines told Lane.

"Our hearts go out to family and friends of Robert Godwin Sr".

In several posts, he claimed to have killed as many as a dozen people, but police have not found evidence to support that claim.
