Browns' Garrett has sprained foot, expected to be in camp

Browns' Garrett has sprained foot, expected to be in camp

Myles Garrett has been diagnosed with a lateral foot sprain.

That is time-weeks, perhaps-in which Garrett's physical conditioning is going to degrade, and that will show by the time he hits training camp, assuming that he is ready to resume practicing by that point.

The Browns selected Garrett with the first overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. The initial fear on the Browns end was any possible structural damage.

1 pick, didn't appear at a youth football camp Friday at FirstEnergy Stadium with the Browns' rookie class - safety Jabrill Peppers was excused - and the team didn't provide an update.

According to, Garrett was already being used on a limited basis during OTAs with what they were told was a sore foot.

The injury is the same leg on which Garrett suffered a high ankle sprain last season at Texas A&M. That's the nature of the game.

"It sucks, especially when he's one of your good friends", said rookie defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi, a third-round pick. "One day at a time", he said. He's still smiling. He's still feeling good.

Defensive coordinator Gregg Williams has been happy with what he's seen from Garrett so far.

"He has done a great job". "You kind of have to keep him in high spirits, you keep him going and you know he's good".

Garrett signed a four-year, $30.4 million contract with the Browns. The deal included a $20 million signing bonus and a club option for a fifth year. Garrett was a three-year starter at Texas A&M, where he received top All-American and SEC honors.

Garrett remained on the sideline, most of the time in a kneeling position, until lightning forced Jackson to order practice be concluded in the fieldhouse.

"A guy who's just ready to play", Ogunjobi said.
