Johanna Konta beats Rybarikova to reach Nottingham Open final

Johanna Konta beats Rybarikova to reach Nottingham Open final

British No 1 Johanna Konta booked a place in the final of the Aegon Open in Nottingham with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Magdalena Rybarikova.

Cheered on by the home crowd, the world No8 eased through the first set but fell a break behind in the second before upping her game to avoid a decider.

She is expecting a tough encounter against Rybarikova, who, despite being ranked well outside the top 100, won a recent ITF tournament in Surbiton.

At the Rosmalen Grass Court Championships, Ana Konjuh displayed remarkable resolve to overcome Evgeniya Rodina and book her semi-final berth.

Playing in the semi-finals of the competition for the first time, top seed Konta was quickly into her rhythm, breaking Rybarikova in the fifth game of the match. "I'm really looking forward to the match with Ashleigh actually", Konta said.

Further quotes and video footage from Konta's post-match press conference to follow after her doubles match.

Safarova took a three-set victory over Tsvetana Pironkova of Bulgaria 6-3, 0-6, 6-4.

Robson and Rae will meet either Konta and Belgian partner Yanina Wickmayer or Australian duo Monique Adamczak and Storm Sanders, who play later Saturday.

"It was definitely a nice little comeback". "I worked very hard to get myself back into that second set and stop Ashleigh from running away with it".

Having reached the top six in the world rankings last month, she is also optimistic about an improved performance at Wimbledon, where she won a round for the first time past year after four opening-round defeats.

The first yielded the Stanford title last summer, and she went on to reach the final of the prestigious Beijing Premier Mandatory last autumn.
