Pakistan thrash India in cricket Champions Trophy victory

Pakistan thrash India in cricket Champions Trophy victory

Fakhar Zaman capitalised on a lucky escape to strike a superb 114 and lift Pakistan to a commanding total of 338 for four in the Champions Trophy final against arch-rivals India at The Oval on Sunday.

Earlier, Indian skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and as expected made a decision to bowl first in Champions Trophy final against Pakistan, here at The Oval.

"Congratulations to Team Pakistan on their great performance in winning #CT17 And how wonderful to watch Fakhar's raw talent in action", Imran Khan, who led Pakistan to their only One Day International (ODI) World Cup triumph, tweeted after the win.

India have won four of their last five ODI matches against Pakistan, including a 124-run victory earlier in this tournament during the group stage.

Zaman couldn't resist the length ball outside off stump, so he poked at it and only nicked it. But it is [my greatest achievement], you know, it really is.

Pakistan have been starved of worldwide cricket in their own country since an attack on the Sri Lanka team bus in 2009, forcing them to play their "home" series at neutral venues.

Unperturbed by the fall of Azhar's wicket, Zaman, who was given a lifeline at three runs by pacer Jasprit Bumrah, continued his attack and displayed some quality strokes around the ground to enthrall the crowd. I got to one final with Pakistan and eventually got a medal. In the next over, Fakhar once again made a decision to cut loose as he thumped Ashwin for a six and a boundary in the twenty seventh over.

Pakistan: Azhar Ali run out 59 (71b, 6x4, 1x6), Fakhar Zaman c Jadeja b Pandya 114 (106b, 12x4, 3x6), Babar Azam c Yuvraj b Jadhav 46 (52b, 4x4), Shoaib Malik c Jadhav b Bhuvneshwar 12 (16b, 1x6), Mohammad Hafeez (not out) 57 (37b, 4x4, 3x6), Imad Wasim (not out) 25 (21b, 1x4, 1x6); Extras (lb-9, w-13, nb-3): 25; Total (for four wkts.in 50 overs): 338.

Chasing 339 for victory, due in no small part to a disappointing bowling display, India sank to 158 all out in 30.3 overs.

# Hardik Pandya scored a quick fire fifty and brought up with a huge six. They had talked of remaining calm and composed under pressure but Virat Kohli's men wilted.

Kohli said: "I congratulated them in the post-match presentation and I would do the same here because they deserved to win".

The match, honestly, never belonged to India after they had put Pakistan in to bat.

After being put into bat first Pakistan captain Sarfraz said "we wanted to bowl first but the toss is out of our control".

They beat South Africa, Sri Lanka and host England to reach their first Trophy final, where only they believed they could end a seven-match, six-year losing streak to India in global tournaments. On Sunday, the Pakistanis owned India's bowlers.

Their captain Sarfraz Ahmed said they had quickly forgotten the opening loss to India and simply focused on the next game in their bid to win the Champions Trophy for the first time.

"After the first game I said there is a big gap between Ind & Pak these days. Just the other way round.??" tweeted commentator Sanjay Manjrekar, a former India test cricketer. The gap remained in this match.
