Sanchez Likely To Miss Chile's Confederations Cup Opener - Pizzi

Sanchez Likely To Miss Chile's Confederations Cup Opener - Pizzi

Late goals from Arturo Vidal and Eduardo Vargas saw Chile open their Confederations Cup campaign with a 2-0 win over Cameroon - but it is unlikely to spare Federation Internationale de Football Association having to answer some hard questions about the video assistant referee (VAR) system.

Sanchez scored 30 goals in all competitions last season but could not help secure a top four spot for the Gunners.

Chile had the ball in the back of the net on the stroke of halftime, however the Video Assistant Referee ruled that Vargas was offside.

That wasn't the first time the VAR system came into play in the match, either.

Benjamin Moukandjo insists Cameroon's team spirit will be key for his side as they prepare to launch their Confederations Cup Group B campaign against Chile.

"The result is not so important, the experience is more important for the team", Broos said at a post-match press conference.

The review found Vargas offside by a matter of inches, enraging him and Vidal, who angrily petitioned Skomina when he blew for half time.

Sanchez charged through the Chilean defense, but saw his shot saved by Ondoa, only for Vargas to score the rebound.

There was no dispute about Vidal's goal as he rose above two defenders to power home the ball as Sanchez, who had been ruled out of the starting line-up through injury but came in early in the second half, provided the ideal assist.

Chile dominated the game throughout, but couldn't finish several first-half chances. In the head to head match of Cameroon vs Chile ends in a draw.
