Chris Ruddy: Trump Is 'Considering Perhaps Terminating' Special Counsel Robert Mueller

As Mueller begins to build his team to investigate allegations of collusion between Russian Federation and Donald Trump's political team to undermine the 2016 election, the president's conservative allies are digging in to discredit Mueller, who was appointed as special counsel by Trump's own Justice Department.

Ruddy, who had been at the White House Monday, told PBS' Judy Woodruff that "I think he's considering perhaps terminating the special counsel". Last week, former FBI Director James Comey told Congress he believes he was sacked by Trump to undermine the agency's Russian Federation probe.

Two senators say they are disappointed that Attorney General Jeff Sessions has sent his deputy to testify before a committee hearing on the Justice Department's budget.

Mr Ruddy said he spoke to the President on Friday.

The talk about dismissing Mr Mueller appeared to be coming from Trump allies, including some close to White House strategist Steve Bannon, who are increasingly frustrated with the prospect of a long and winding probe.

CNN cited a source close to Trump as saying the president was "being advised by many people" to not fire Mueller, who led the Federal Bureau of Investigation between 2001 and 2013. If Trump were to make such a move, he would have to order Rosenstein to fire Mueller.

Also Wednesday, Senate Judiciary Chairman Charles Grassley said his panel will investigate the removal of former FBI Director James Comey and "any alleged improper partisan interference in law enforcement investigations".

Reports that Trump was considering firing Mueller surfaced last week, again citing unnamed sources.

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter offered a similar message, tweeting, "Now that we know TRUMP IS NOT UNDER INVESTIGATION, Sessions should take it back & fire Mueller".

Deputy White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said simply: "Chris speaks for himself". Any such step would face a steep hurdle as it would require approval by the U.S. House of Representatives, which is controlled by Trump's fellow Republicans.

"Comey is a good friend of special counsel Robert Mueller - such a good friend, for about 15 years now, that the two men have been described as 'brothers in arms, '" York wrote.

"There are some real conflicts".

Trump friend Chris Ruddy, the CEO of Newsmax, has gone so far as to suggest the president was already thinking about "terminating" Mueller. "Look who is hiring". "Don't waste our time". Gingrich added that those who believe the investigation is going to be.

"If President fired Bob Mueller, Congress would immediately re-establish independent counsel and appoint Bob Mueller", Schiff said in a tweet.
