Congressman Shot Is Still in Critical Condition But 'Excellent Recovery' Possible

Congressman Shot Is Still in Critical Condition But 'Excellent Recovery' Possible

Scalise is the No. 3 House Republican leader.

The man who shot House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and others at a congressional baseball practice earlier this week had with him a piece of paper with doodles and the names of three lawmakers, according to a person familiar with the case. But at a news conference, Pelosi bristled at comments made by a few Republicans and conservative activists who blamed heated Democratic rhetoric for the incident. U.S. Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-La.), who visited Scalise in the hospital Thursday, said that on a recent foreign trip he and Scalise took, 90 percent of their conversations were about the game.

Dr. Sava said that Mr. Scalise sustained a single rifle wound that traveled across his pelvis and was in shock when he arrived at the hospital. The hospital planned to hold a briefing on his condition later in the day Friday. On Wednesday night, Trump, accompanied by first lady Melania Trump, visited Scalise at the hospital.

Scalise continues to show signs of improvement after he was wounded in a shooting at a Republican baseball practice outside Washington. The two have enjoyed a long-running ribbing over the game, which Republicans won last year to break a seven-year Democratic win streak. After accepting it gracefully, Barton cracked, "Next year we won't be so nice".

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise was shot in the hip and remains in critical condition.

Trump says Scalise "continues his very fearless fight", but adds: "it's been much more hard than people even thought at the time".

The bullet damaged blood vessels, bones, and internal organs, Sava said.

As Scalise continued his grueling recovering, law enforcement officials proceeded with their investigation of the Wednesday attack at a suburban Virginia park, where shooter James Hodgkinson wounded several other people in addition to Scalise.

The 66-year-old suspect from Belleville, Illinois, was a volunteer for Senator Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign but whether he was politically motivated is still unclear, investigators said.

There were a lot of great images to choose from, but The Daily Caller News Foundation narrowed them down to the top seven.

Trump, in a video message played at the game, said the event had "a much deeper level of meaning" because of the shooting.

Lawmakers take the field Thursday evening at Nationals Park.

The shooting at a republican congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia is hitting a southern IL congressman hard. We also praise Special Agents Crystal Griner and David Bailey of the Capitol Police for their heroic deeds that saved so many lives.

Sava said doctors will not attempt to remove what are likely to be hundreds of bullet fragments from Scalise's body, saying the risk of such a procedure typically outweighs the potential benefits.
