Spicer taking on new White House role

Spicer taking on new White House role

He accused the White House of "stonewalling" reporters.

It's also been over a week since Spicer held a full on-camera press briefing. In a statement from Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the White House confirmed it is looking to make a hire in the communications department.

Among the harshest critics of Monday's decision were CNN anchors Wolf Blitzer, who told viewers "normally we'd be airing the White House press briefing. but unfortunately we're not allowed to show it to you live", and Jim Acosta, who tweeted a photo of his socks in lieu of a picture of Spicer during the gaggle.

Acosta went on to say that reporters asked a variety of questions on hot-button issues like the Republicans' forthcoming health care bill, Trump's opinions on climate change, whether he's been taping conversations in the White House and whether he could fire the special prosecutor looking into possible connections to Russian Federation.

White House press secretary Sean Spicer held an off-camera press "gaggle", but no cameras or audio were allowed.

More and more of Spicer's briefings have been off-camera in recent weeks, including Monday's.

CNN reporter Jim Acosta on Monday didn't mince any words on how he feels about the Trump administration's total unwillingness to divulge any information or answer any questions.

"We should walk out", he responded. Many journalists were alarmed as the Trump campaign blacklisted more than half a dozen news organizations during the presidential campaign, but there was no serious, concerted response. They have also taken the absurd and unprecedented step of making the daily White House schedule "not reportable". "If they can't give us the answers to the questions on camera or where we can record the audio, they're basically pointless".

"They bring us into the briefing room here at the White House and they wont answer these questions on camera, or let us record the audio. I don't know what world we're living in right now". "It's like we're just covering bad reality television".
