Deadly Grenfell Tower blaze because of faulty fridge

Deadly Grenfell Tower blaze because of faulty fridge

"We are reviewing every company involved in the building and refurbishment of Grenfell Tower", Police Detective Superintendent, Fiona McCormack, said.

After Friday's statement, Tony Rice, a shareholder of Omnis Exteriors, which manufactured materials for Grenfell's cladding system, stepped down from the board of trustees of Shelter London, a charity that has been providing advice and support to the victims of the fire. On the streets around Grenfell Tower - now a blackened hulk of a building - missing person photos are attached to railings, buildings and bus stops.

The building materials used in the tower may be to blame for the alarmingly rapid spread of the fire. "Social housing residents in North Kensington have been crying out about fire hazards and poor housing conditions for years, but they have been ignored".

The Grenfell Tower fire is believed to have been started by a Hotpoint fridge freezer.

Officials say that particular product had never been recalled before. Consumers who had were asked to contact the company.

UK Police will consider manslaughter charges as part of the investigation into the Grenfell Tower fire that left at least 79 people dead, as police confirm the blaze began inside a faulty fridge. The police said that every complete body had been recovered from the building, but that the authorities were still working to identify remains.

Councillor Luke Stubbs, deputy leader of Portsmouth city council, said: "As a precaution we submitted some cladding for testing and the results that came back said the cladding on Horatia House and Leamington House was a fire risk".

Diarmaid Ward, Islington council's executive member for housing and development, said: "We're arranging to have the cladding, which is only on the sides of the building, removed as soon as we possibly can by a specialist contractor".

Hundreds of further buildings are being tested by the British government to see if they pose a fire threat.

A Hotpoint spokesman said: "Words can not express our sorrow at this bad tragedy".

The police have said today that they have seized documents and materials from a "number of organisations".

"We offer our most profound condolences to the victims, those who have lost loved-ones, homes, and possessions, and to their friends and families", Whirlpool said in a statement. Under these circumstances, we are unable to speculate on further details at this time.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with all those involved, including the emergency services who risked their lives to extinguish the blaze and rescue those in the building". We are addressing this as a matter of utmost urgency and assisting the authorities in any way we can.

"There will now be an additional 24-hour presence on site to provide safety monitoring".
