Father Arrested for the Murder of His Missing 5-Year-Old Son

Father Arrested for the Murder of His Missing 5-Year-Old Son

Andressian, 35, appeared for an extradition hearing in Las Vegas and, with his hands and feet shackled, flashed a smile during the hearing and cracked jokes about the number of journalists in the courtroom.

As NBC 4 Los Angeles reports, members of the missing boy's family have been stunned by the arrest of Aramazd Andressian Sr. on suspicion of his son's murder.

The father of a 5-year-old Pasadena boy missing since April was arrested on suspicion of murder, Los Angeles Times reported. It wasn't immediately clear what prompted the arrest.

While cops have still not found the boy's body, investigators believe Aramazd Andressian Sr. took his life sometime around April 22, which is when the child was first reported missing, according to the Los Angeles Daily News. The boy was spending the week with his dad.

A search began April 22, after the father was found passed out in a vehicle in a park in South Pasadena, California.

Andressian told investigators he had ingested a prescription medication that wasn't his own that morning, deputies said.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department homicide investigators coordinated the arrest with the sheriff's Major Crimes Bureau Fugitive Taskforce, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department CAPE (Major Violator/Narcotics Crimes Bureau), Homicide Section and the Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Taskforce of the U.S. Marshals Service.

The last confirmed sighting of the boy was with his father around 1 a.m. on April 21 as they left Disneyland. He declined to say what Andressian Sr. was doing there, but said he was "socializing". He is around 55 pounds. He has a small mole on the bottom of his right shoulder.

The little boy's last confirmed location was at Disneyland in Anaheim.

The boy's body has not yet been found.

Several departments including the South Pasadena Police Department (SPPD) have continuously searched for the boy without trace of a body, deeming the case a "no-body" murder. He faces extradition to Los Angeles County. Andressian claimed he had no memory of what had happened but said he suspected he had been attacked after he took his son to the park the day he vanished.

Officials confirm that Andressian and his wife, Ana Estevez, are embroiled in a bitter divorce, but they shared custody of their son.

Meanwhile, surveillance teams monitored the only named person of interest in the disappearance: the child's father, Aramazd Andressian Sr.

Andressian laughed and joked about the reporters in the room. His father was found unconscious that morning at a South Pasadena park, authorities said.

'My heart is shattered and I will miss my son immensely each and every second of every day for the rest of my life, ' the boy's mother said in a statement released by the sheriff's department.

"My family and I are heartbroken and grief-stricken that Aramazd missing and may be in harm's way", he added.

Officials are expected to talk about the arrest at a news conference on Monday.

"My son's disappearance is my worst nightmare", she said.
