Saudi hopes for 'positive' Qatar response to demands

Saudi hopes for 'positive' Qatar response to demands

Meanwhile, the Saudi Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, Ambassador Abdullah bin Yahya Al-Mu'allemi stressed that Qatar insists on destabilizing Saudi and regional security in addition to supporting terrorism that threatens the whole world.

A handout picture released by the Emiri Diwan in Kuwait on July 3, 2017, shows Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Khaled al-Sabah (R) receiving Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammad Bin Abdulrahman al-Thani at Kuwait International Airport.

On 20 June, the US State Department says it is "mystified" that Saudi Arabia has yet to produce a clear list of demands.

"Wisdom is needed and the alternative is hard for us all", Dr Gargash said on his Twitter account.

This meeting comes "in the framework of the coordination of positions", but also of "consultations" between the four countries to discuss "future endeavours regarding the Qatar", according to the text.

"This is an important step in building confidence between the parties", Mr Johnson said. "I hope that progress can continue to be made to restore GCC, which is a key element of stability in the Gulf region".

They accused Doha of supporting extremism and of being too close to regional rival Iran, which Qatar has strongly denied.

On 5 June, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, the UAE, Yemen and the Maldives break diplomatic relations with Qatar.

In a statement, the White House said the President "spoke separately today with King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia, Crown Prince Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi, and Emir Tamin bin Hamad Al-Thani of Qatar".

President Donald Trump presses Qatar to "immediately" stop financing terrorism. "We demand the public have access to unbiased information". We want to talk, but there is a condition for that. The diplomatic communications were being carried out through Kuwait, and had raised hope of a resolution.

UAE officials yesterday said that when the deadline expired, economic and political sanctions would become permanent.

"It's up to the Qataris to amend their behaviour and once they do, things will be worked out, but if they don't they will remain isolated", said Adel al-Jubeir, Al Jazeera reports.

Trump also tweeted that he would be speaking with European leaders Monday.

On Monday Al Jazeera, based in Doha, responded on air to the demand that it be closed down.

He added: "Qatar was given several chances to end its support of terrorism and not interfere in other countries' internal affairs".
