Women in WH Earn 80 Cents on the Dollar Compared to Men

Women in WH Earn 80 Cents on the Dollar Compared to Men

While Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner's roles in the White House have earned scorn and concerns about nepotism, neither Kushner nor Ivanka are receiving salaries for their positions assisting the president.

CNN cited the White House's annual report to Congress released Friday that says the average salary among men working in the White House is roughly $104,000 while women in the White House make approximately $83,500, indicating that the pay of male and female staffers is unfair. Several high profile Trump staffers have Jersey connections.

But there are 16 men who are making that top figure at the White House Office, with another who is on detail making even more. The top salary for permanent employees at the White House is 179,700 dollars. Three of the eight employees in that category are women.

The country's gender wage gap goes all the way to the White House, according to a new CNN analysis.

In 2014, the Washington Post reported that then-President Barack Obama hadn't yet succeeded in closing the gender wage gap in his White House, albeit a much smaller gap than Trump's.

According to the U.S. Labor Department, American women earn 82 cents for every dollar earned by American men. In April, equal-pay advocates criticized the president for signing an executive order that rolled back a regulation meant to protect women's ability to earn the same as men.

Ivanka told CEOs who attended a summit at the White House in April, that encouraging young women to pursue jobs in professions including science, technology and engineering would help reduce the pay gap.
