Four Halo games are coming to Xbox One Backward Compatibility

Four Halo games are coming to Xbox One Backward Compatibility

Titles include Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo 4, and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary.

Halo is one of the quintessential first-person shooter series, and since Halo 5: Guardians came out back in 2015 players have been eagerly awaiting the conclusion to the new Forerunner Trilogy (especially since Halo 5 ended on one hell of a cliffhanger).

Along with this announcement 343 Industries also said that the games will support cross-generation LAN connections, which means that gamers can connect the Xbox 360 and Xbox One to play some local multiplayer with friends.

We'll have more to share on this front as we get closer to release, so stay tuned. In addition, all Halo games that released on Xbox 360 will become backward compatible later this year for Xbox One. In an intriguing twist, anybody who owns those games either digitally or on disc will be able to play either online or via LAN against players on Xbox 360 consoles-which is rare for games in the Xbox back-compat program. 343 Industries revealed that the game will get an update later this year and it'll make full use of the new Xbox by showcasing the game in "true 4K".

While we still don't know when these games will be arriving on Xbox One, 343 promises that we will know more soon.

Even better, 343 Industries has confirmed "every Xbox 360 Halo add-on map pack in the Xbox Store will be made available for free".

Halo 5 is one of the rare first party game that was missing from Microsoft's E3 2017 press conference. Could it be a big patch to the ill-fated Master Chief Collection, or perhaps a Halo: Reach remaster?
